Food and Accommodation
Accomodation is available at Rs. 4000/- for the term. In case your family or friends want to visit
you on campus, then be sure to book rooms for them in advance at the Tata
Hall where Air conditioned rooms are available for Rs.
950/- per day for outstation visitors .There are four student hostels (Ramanujan
Hostel, Tagore Hostel, Annexe Hostel and New Hostel) and one family hostel (for
married students). Male and female exchange students are usually accommodated
en-bloc in one of the four hostels. The maximum distance from any of the
hostels to the academic block does not exceed 600 metres.
Each room has a ceiling fan, tubelight, bulb, cupboard, a desk with chair,
wooden shelves, a hanging rack, bed with mattress, two plug-points and a LAN
port for the campus wide network and 24 hour internet access . A room may also
have a balcony. Each block of eight rooms has a common bathroom. For exchange
students, western styled toilets have been constructed. For laundry, washermen
(called dhobis in India) visit thrice a week and charge Rs. 400 per month for all
clothes, or Rs. 7/- per cloth (includes washing and ironing). Food is served in the mess attached to each hostel. The messing charges
are usually Rs. 60/- per day for exchange students (includes breakfast, lunch,
tea and dinner). If you are fed-up of Indian food, you can order by telephone,
pizzas or your favorite Continental fare from any of a number of outlets which
deliver on campus.
The campus is otherwise reasonably self contained and you can get most of your
requirements from the shops operating within each student hostel and the campus
cooperative store.
