The Information Revolution has been much talked about, harped upon, discussed, anticipated, bubbled up and burst, reinvented and reincarnated until there is nothing much more to say, except that “IT is HERE”. Francis Bacon once remarked “Knowledge is Power” and at no time in history has this statement been truer than now. Information is changing our lives in ways unimagined, and will continue to do so in ways unforeseeable.
For all the opportunities that Information Technology unearths, it also brings with it very real threats to today's businesses. No organization today can realistically hope to survive without knowledge of Systems. “Systems” now play a role larger than merely in the sphere of Software Engineering, E-Commerce, IT strategy or Database Management. IT strategy, no longer confined to the domain of technology alone, must work in tandem with the broader goals of the organization. “Systems” is an all pervasive part of the modern corporation- in ERP, e-business strategy, business process reengineering, business analysis and corporate systems. More and more, IT is being seen not only a way to increase efficiency but also as a way to gain and sustain competitive advantage.
The Systems Consulting Club of IIM Calcutta aims to provide a platform from where prospective young managers will gain experience with real-life issues and problems in Systems. The overall objective is to develop a good understanding of business processes, coupled with an understanding of underlying technologies, with a view to developing global business leaders for tomorrow. |
