Academic Programmes at IIM Calcutta
Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM)
The widely acclaimed PGDM programme is designed to educate innovative managers for the new millennium.
In the First Year all students pursue the same course of study and together build a strong foundation of general management concepts and skills.
The students undergo Summer Internship, 8-10 weeks spent with a professional organization, on completion of the first year's course work.
This exposure equips students to relate management theory to practice, handle assignments independently and deliver results in a corporate environment.
During the Second Year students can choose from an unparalleled range of seventy-one elective courses enabling them to synthesize the functional skills developed through the curriculum into a more complete understanding of the firm as a total enterprise.
Post Graduate Diploma in Computer-Aided Management (PGDCM)
This programme, the first of its kind in the country, integrates Information Technology with management theory and practice.
Started in 1994, it focusses on training a new class of managers who can leverage IT to realize the objectives of an organization.
The PGDCM programme is conducted in tandem with the PGDM course. In the First Year, PGDCM students take up common courses in Marketing, Finance, Operations, Behavioural Sciences, etc along with PGDM students, in addition to basic courses in Management Information Systems.
The format of the Summer Internship for PGDCM students is exactly the same as that for PGDM students.
In the Second Year, they can specialize in Marketing, Finance, Operations, Strategy, HR, etc., apart from the compulsory specialization in Systems.
The Fellow Programme (FP)
The FP program is a full time doctoral level programme, initiated in 1971, designed to develop students for careers in teaching and research at leading business schools and universities, apart from equipping them to provide consultancy services to the industry.
The First Year programme as well as the Summer Internship format for FP students is similar to the PGDM programme. The Second Year includes several doctoral level courses in the student's area of specialisation, after which the student writes a dissertation of doctoral standard.
