The mission of IIM Calcutta is “to develop innovative and ethical future leaders capable of managing change and transformation in a globally competitive environment and to advance the theory and practice of management”.

While the full time students of resident Post-Graduate and Doctoral Programmes of the institute are fortunate to avail of our high quality education, a large number of working executives found it difficult due to various constraints including the availability of time while on a job. In recognition of this problem IIM Calcutta pioneered executive education to extend the outreach of its academic and professional services beyond the full-time resident programmes by using a balanced mix of traditional methods as well as state-of-the-art information technology to partly overcome the constraints of time and space. The Consultancy and Management Development Programmes (CMDP) division of IIM Calcutta is committed to serve the training and consulting needs of industries, governments, and not-for-profit organizations in various formats of programme delivery to best suit their needs.

The faculty of IIM Calcutta comprises members who have been drawn from a variety of disciplines and who have considerable experience in teaching, research, training, and consulting. In addition to selective areas of general management IIM Calcutta offers customized training programmes to meet specific requirements of organizations and also undertakes Project Consultancy services for Companies, Central and State Governments, Civil and Administrative Services, Defence Services, Funding Agencies, Rural Development Councils, and other organizations in need of its services.

At IIM Calcutta lectures and visual stimuli are supported by plenary sessions and group discussions. Case studies and role plays form a valuable part of the Programmes. Participants get an opportunity to add value to the learning process by sharing live experiences with peer participants.

In recognition of the huge demand of its programmes from prospective participants who are unable to physically come to the campus to attend regular teaching sessions of short durations, IIM Calcutta has started offering executive programmes in broadcast mode over satellites where participants can attend the interactive sessions at some convenient ambience of a class room near their workplace. Programmes on general management as well as on focused topics over relatively longer durations are covered in this format to consolidate learning in chosen areas of the participants.

IIM Calcutta strives to continuously dwell on the cutting edge of management theory and practices by keeping abreast state-of-the-art global management research and by addressing management problems of the day by sharing the experiences with practicing managers and executives.
