How INCA works
The Initiative for Community Action takes up specific projects for
voluntary organisations and others doing useful social work. Project
concerns are suggested by selected organisations themselves. Each
project is given management formulation by the Project Team undertaking
the project under the guidance of the Faculty Guide of the project.
A Project Team consists of typically four students who select among
themselves a Project Coordinator. Work on projects usually starts
in July and, depending on the time required by a particular project,
continues till December or January, concluding with a project report
that is submitted to the organisation. An Organising Committee of
three students of which one student member acts as Programme Coordinator
coordinates INCA. The Organising Committee works under the guidance
of INCA Chairman.
INCA today
Today, in its ninth year, INCA already boasts of being the biggest
student body on campus with the current membership of over 100
students, involved in over 25 projects with NGO's not only in and around Kolkata, but also from Bangalore.
We have also been involved in projects with the state government of West Bengal.
How to be a Student Member
of INCA
Membership is by deed, not intention. Each member works in
one or more projects. INCA calls for applications from students
in June. Notices to that effect are put upon campus notice
boards. There is only one opportunity of joining INCA as a
student member since the teams start working in Mid July and
changing team composition is not encouraged.
