From The Editor's Desk

I am pleased to present before you the combined (January-March and April-June) 2023 issue of Connexions - our quarterly newsletter. This issue contains short reports on our Alumni Reunions. You will be pleased to learn that during the last academic year IIMC organized as many as six PGP Alumni Reunions along with the Homecoming Event of MBAEx. We really appreciate our alumni's desire to visit their Alma Mater and maintain a continuing connect with it. That is why, we went out of our way to accommodate as many alumni events as we could do, especially in the aftermath of disruptive Covid 19. You will recall some of our alumni batches had missed the usual Alumni Events like Reminiscence and Golden Jubilee Reunion during the pandemic. Also, we are going to organize a big commemorative event on 25 June 2023 on our campus to facilitate off-line interaction between members of those graduating batches (who had to remain content with online convocation) and the IIMC community. We look forward to welcoming them along with their parents to the Campus. You will be happy to see as to how many of our alumni are making us proud through their professional achievements. Please feel free to write to us about your and your friends' stellar accomplishments so that we can share them as inspirational stories for our students. Over the years, our engagements with our alumni have grown manifold. They serve as members of the Board of Governors of IIM Calcutta. Some of them contribute to our teaching programmes as Guest/Visiting Faculty. Some of them also participate in our short and long-duration training programmes. Then, they are very often our honoured guests at various Institute's functions and events. We invite them regularly for leadership talks at various academic programmes. In fact, one of our MBAEx courses - Being a CEO - is largely anchored by our alumni. The issue also highlights our expression of goodwill and warmth to the graduating batches of 2020 and 2021 who had to make do with virtual convocation owing to Covid-19 Pandemic. As a compensatory gesture, we organized a special commemorative ceremony for them on campus on 25 June 2023 where our alumni, their family members and the larger IIMC fraternity could informally interact over lunch and go down the memory lane.

I will particularly urge you to go through the interviews of two of our illustrious senior alumni - Arvind Sankaran, and Prabhat Bezbaruah. Arvind gives us a peep into the founding of our own and much loved JBS. In a way, JBS and other such vibrant cultural institutions on Joka campus are testimony to our having nurtured multifaceted talents over the decades rather than having produced one-dimensional managers. You can see this multi-faceted talent in the life and work of Shri G. M. Kapur whose name has come to stand for INTACH in Kolkata. I am happy to share with you the good news that Shri Kapur is helping us develop an Archives in his role as the Chairman of the Advisory Committee for Institute's Archives. He was also our Chief Guest for the Commemorative Function for the 2021 batch on 25 June 2023.

You will be reassured to know that IIM Calcutta is living up to its glorious legacy of a preeminent institution of management education in the country. It has maintained its unflinching commitment to relevance and rigour in the field of management education and research. And, it is very well on its path of striking a judicious balance between global imperatives and national expectations in the context of New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
