Senior Project Manager (on Contract)

1. Position: Senior Project Manager (on Contract)

2. Department: Engineering Department

3. Reports To: The Senior Project Manager will report to Chief Administrative Officer.

4. Job Responsibilities:

  • i. Handling campus infrastructure works at IIM Calcutta including planning, designing, estimation and execution of civil, electrical and communication engineering, contract management, construction management, project management etc.
  • ii. Identifying scope of work as per the detailed project report and requirement at site, preparation of detailed estimate and associated drawings and note sheet, preparation of tender documents, analysis of rates, supervision of those work during the execution, quality checking, checking of the measurements and bills raised by the contractor during and after the completion of work, maintenance and finalization of works accounts.
  • iii. To read and interpret engineering and civil drawings.
  • iv. To ensure completion of project within scope time, cost and resources and maintaining high quality standards.
  • v. Coordination with Architect, Construction Agency, Local Authorities, Higher Officials, Statutory Authorities for all sorts of compliances on behalf of IIM Calcutta.
  • vi. To exercise overall superintendence over works including ensuring due test check of the quality and quantity of work, measured and checked by the construction agency.
  • vii. To submit budget, accounts and prescribed returns, etc. on time.
  • viii. To keep detailed accounts of work, consumption of materials and item-wise work expenditure.
  • ix. To submit required progress report regularly for the works under their charge to their superiors.
  • x. Completely track the project performance specially to analyze the successful completion of its various stages as per project planning.
  • xi. Should be adept in eco-friendly projects, green building systems (GRIHA / LEED, etc.), solar energy utilization and landscaping and affiliate connected essential aspects in Campus Construction and Planning.
  • xii. Organize meetings related to Campus Infrastructure and brief the IIMC management on various aspects related to the infrastructure development.
  • xiii. Maintain all records, documents and photographs etc. of the project, carry out periodic evaluation of the projects and prepare quarterly project reports.
  • xiv. Should have good knowledge of modern construction techniques, new construction materials, Government guidelines, Vendor procedures and other statutory requirements.
  • xv. To deal with arbitration and court cases pertaining to works undertaken.
  • xvi. To handle audit inspections as per rules.
  • xvii. To prepare his portion of the Annual Report of IIMC.
  • xviii. Any other relevant jobs as assigned by the Competent Authority from time to time.

5. Academic Qualification:

  • i. Essential: B.E./B. Tech in Engineering (Civil) from a recognized University/Institute with 55% marks and consistently good academic record.
  • ii. Desirable: M.E./M. Tech in Engineering (Civil) from a recognized University/Institute.

6. Experience:

  • i. Essential: Minimum 15 (Fifteen) years relevant experience in a reputed organization in Civil / Electrical Engineering.
  • ii. Desirable: Experience in construction of new residential buildings preferably for universities/institutes of eminence like IIMs, IITs, NITs and similar institutions. Experience in preventive maintenance, retrofitting, rehabilitation and alteration works, Management of residential township. Exposure to modern management/ infrastructure construction techniques will be an added advantage. Candidates having experience in premier organization/ institution with good communication skills will be preferred.

7. Age: Upto 55 years preferably. Age will not be limiting factor for the right candidate.

8. Emoluments: A consolidated emolument of Rs.1,50,000 (Rupees one lakh fifty thousand only) per month (negotiable), based on the experience and job profile of the candidate. In case the incumbent is availing the Institute’s accommodation, 15% (Fifteen percent) of the consolidated emoluments will be deducted. In addition to the consolidated emoluments, the other benefits include medical reimbursement, mediclaim insurance etc. as per the Institute’s policy. The salary will be revised annually based on performance as per Institute policy. The salary will not be a constraint for deserving candidates.

9. Tenure: This is a contractual position for a period of 03 (Three) years only. During the engagement, Candidate may opt out from service of the Institute or the Institute may terminate the engagement, by giving 30 (Thirty) days written notice by either side.


  • i. Candidates on selection are required to submit relieving letter from their employer (Govt./Public sector/Private) at the time of joining the Institute, without which they will not be allowed to join.
  • ii. Application forms should be supported by self-attested photograph and documents in respect of qualification, experience etc. of the candidates.
  • iii. Age relaxation for SC/ST and OBCs is applicable as per Government of India norms.
  • iv. The candidates should super scribe the position applied for at the top of the envelopes containing the application form.
  • v. The prescribed essential qualifications/experience indicated above is bare minimum and mere possession of the same will not entitle the candidates to be called for test/ interview. The Institute reserves the right to restrict the number of candidates to be called for interview to a reasonable number on the basis of qualifications and experience.
  • vi. Degree as referred above should have been awarded by a recognized University/Institute.
  • vii. Competent authority may relax the age and experience in deserving cases.
  • viii. Subsequent amendments/modifications etc., if any, will be notified on the Institute’s website ( and may be referred by the interested candidates.
  • ix. Application fee of Rs.500/- (Rupees Five hundred) only should be submitted in the form of Demand Draft in favour of “Indian Institute of Management Calcutta” payable at Kolkata. For Online Bank Transfer, Bank Details may be found as attached. SC/ST/PWD/Female candidates will not be required to submit the application fee.
  • x. Only the selected candidate(s) in respect of the previously mentioned post (if any) will be intimated accordingly. No interim queries will be entertained.
  • xi. The authority reserves the right to reject/accept any/all candidature without assigning any reason.
  • xii. Out stationed candidates shortlisted for personal interview would be reimbursed to and fro AC II tier train fare as travelling allowance on submission of bills.
  • xiii. Incomplete applications or applications without self-attested copies of certificates/ testimonials or received after the last date are liable to be rejected.
  • xiv. Canvassing in any form will lead to the cancellation of the candidature.
  • xv. The Institute reserves the right not to fill up the post advertised, without assigning any reason.
  • xvi. In case of any dispute the decision of the Institute will be final.
