TATA Social Enterprise Challenge (TSEC)

The TATA Social Enterprise Challenge is a joint initiative of TATA Sons and IIM Calcutta, launched in 2012 to find and nurture India's most promising early-stage social enterprises. The Challenge stands for the belief that enterprise is one of the most powerful instruments of social change, and that a venture should be judged by the depth of the problem it solves rather than the polish of its pitch. Welcoming for-profit, not-for-profit and hybrid models alike, TSEC seeks ventures creating sustainable, scalable and measurable impact in India. This initiative aims to build an ecosystem in which interaction with investors, industry leaders, academia, and grassroots practitioners inculcates entrepreneurial and problem-solving skills in the next generation of changemakers.

Tata Social Enterprise Challenge (TSEC), organized jointly by IIM Calcutta and the Tata Group, aims to establish itself as a major event in the Indian social entrepreneurship space by bringing together social entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and members from the academia, industry and business and the whole bunch of social entrepreneurs to identify and promote sustainable ideas that impact the social sector. 
The challenge will invite social entrepreneurs from across India, who either have an early stage venture or an idea with a proof of concept. The proposed venture needs to have a sustainable business model that creates social impact. There is no restriction on the business model and it can be for-profit, not for profit or even a hybrid model. 
The teams are required to submit a detailed Impact Proposal for the event based on which teams will be shortlisted for a 3-week mentorship program which includes mentorship at IIM Calcutta campus. Social entrepreneurs identified through the competition will be offered mentorship support, awarded cash grants and have an opportunity to pitch for funding and incubation at IIM Calcutta.
