Programme Overview

The Executive Programme in Healthcare Management from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta offers a cutting-edge, multi-disciplinary education for healthcare professionals. The programme will give participants a rigorous and comprehensive exposure to healthcare management, engaging with developments and debates in global health, Indian healthcare industry, public health perspectives, health systems management, and digital transformation of the healthcare provision. All modules will draw on IIM Calcutta’s core strengths in managerial competencies in the domains of leadership, organizational design, strategy, marketing, managerial communication, operations management, economics, human resources management, finance and accounting, and information systems.

The programme is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the strategic, managerial, and technological capabilities required to navigate the rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. Blending academic rigour with practitioner insights, the curriculum develops systems thinking, policy orientation, operational excellence, and digital fluency across healthcare contexts. Through an interdisciplinary approach, participants engage with healthcare governance, institutional and regulatory frameworks, AI-enabled decision-making, and technology-driven transformation, while remaining grounded in the practical realities of healthcare delivery in both national and global settings. The programme further emphasizes reflective practice, collaborative problem-solving, and applied learning to prepare participants for leadership roles in increasingly complex and data-driven healthcare ecosystems.

Programme Objective

The objectives of the EPHM are as follows:

Develop a systems-level understanding of healthcare institutions, policies, governance structures, and stakeholder ecosystems.
Strengthen strategic leadership capability for managing healthcare organizations in dynamic, technology-driven, and uncertain environments.
Build operational and financial acumen for improving healthcare delivery, quality, efficiency, and resource utilization.
Apply regulatory, ethical, and governance principles in organizational decision-making and healthcare management practices.
Leverage digital health technologies, health informatics, data analytics, and AI-enabled tools for informed and evidence-based decision-making.
Enhance capability in managing people, communication, collaboration, and multi-stakeholder healthcare environments.
Evaluate and design innovation and entrepreneurial interventions for scalable and sustainable healthcare transformation.
Translate interdisciplinary knowledge into actionable solutions through applied projects, AI use-case development, and reflective practice.
Develop practical decision-making frameworks and implementation capabilities for driving short-term operational improvements and long-term institutional transformation.

Who Should Attend

Healthcare professionals in general, and specifically, hospital administrators, doctors, professionals from medical and allied sectors such as pharmaceuticals and medical insurance as well as healthcare entrepreneurs.

Eligibility

Medical practitioners and administrators with MBBS/BDS/BAMS degree or equivalent recognized by UGC/AICTE/MCI or equivalent. Students with biotechnology and biomedical background (bachelor’s degree or above) are also eligible to apply. Applicants should have minimum three years of experience in healthcare sector as on application closure date.
Applicants from other disciplinary backgrounds shall also be eligible, provided they have minimum five years of experience in healthcare sector as on application closure date.
All Applicants need to have minimum 50% marks [aggregate – considering results of all years] in graduation / post-graduation.

Programme Duration and Delivery

The duration of the programme is one year.

Classes will be held on Sundays - 9 am to 12 noon.
Some additional sessions will be scheduled on select Saturdays and holidays, as required and as decided by IIMC, with prior intimation.

There will be two campus visits, of 4 days’ and 3 days’ duration.

Pedagogy

The Programme will be highly experiential and interactive, comprising participant presentations and discussions, case studies, classroom lectures and presentations by experts.

Programme Content

Overview:

The program blends academic expertise and practitioners’ experiences to equip participants with the necessary managerial skills that would be helpful for them in healthcare settings. The pedagogy introduces participants to contemporary conversations across different sectors and in different regions (national and global), while creating spaces for participants to draw on their experiences as healthcare professionals. Sessions will be delivered by IIMC faculty and select experienced industry experts.

The program is designed around three core axes.

Module 1: Strategic Excellence in Healthcare Systems

Module focus: Macro perspectives on healthcare policy, leadership, communicational excellence and organizational-level thinking. This module builds a strategic and interdisciplinary orientation by enabling participants to understand healthcare as an integrated system shaped by policy, institutions, and evolving technologies.

Programme Sample Certificate

Alumni Status

LDP participants who complete the programme successfully become the Alumni of IIMC Executive Education, which currently has over 35,000 members.
LDP Alumni are given an email-id in the IIM Calcutta domain.
LDP Alumni can register in the IIM Calcutta Alumni portal either with this email-id or with their personal email-ids. The IIM Calcutta Alumni portal is a common platform for Alumni of all programmes of the Institute to interact with each other and stay connected with the Institute.
The Institute shares newsletters, important news and articles about the Institute and its activities, the achievements of the Institute's faculty, staff, students and alumni, upcoming events and programmes etc., on the portal.
Alumni can post their achievements, write about jobs or LIVE project opportunities for other alumni to see.
The IIM Calcutta alumni network can also be accessed on mobile phones through the mobile app.
Executive Education Alumni are entitled to a discount of 5% on the programme fee if they opt to do another LDP.
