Programme Overview

The Executive Programme in Healthcare Management from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta offers a cutting-edge, multi-disciplinary education for healthcare professionals. The programme will give participants a rigorous and comprehensive exposure to healthcare management, engaging with developments and debates in global health, Indian healthcare industry, public health perspectives, and health systems management. All modules will draw on IIM Calcutta’s core strengths in managerial competencies in the domains of leadership, organizational design, strategy, marketing, managerial communication, operations management, economics, human resources management, finance and accounting, and information systems. Each course will be designed to meet the needs of future managers, analysts, entrepreneurs, and leaders in a range of organizations in the healthcare sector, including hospitals, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, public health organizations and healthcare consultants. Programme participants will get an opportunity to interact with healthcare industry experts through guest lectures.

Who Should Attend

Healthcare professionals in general, and specifically, hospital administrators, doctors, professionals from medical and allied sectors such as pharmaceuticals and medical insurance as well as healthcare entrepreneurs.

  • Medical practitioners and administrators with MBBS/BDS/BAMS degree or equivalent recognized by UGC/AICTE/MCI or equivalent. Students with biotechnology and biomedical background (bachelor’s degree or above) are also eligible to apply. Applicants should have minimum three years of experience in healthcare sector as on application closure date.
  • Applicants from other disciplinary backgrounds shall also be eligible, provided they have minimum five years of experience in healthcare sector as on application closure date.
  • All Applicants need to have minimum 50% marks [aggregate - considering results of all years] in graduation / post-graduation.

Programme Duration and Delivery

The duration of the programme is one year
Classes will be held on Sundays 9 am to 12 noon.
Some additional sessions will be scheduled on select Saturdays and holidays, as required and as decided by IIMC, with prior intimation
There will be two campus visits, each of 5 days’ duration.
The campus visits will be conducted subject to the evolving pandemic situation and will depend on government and institute regulations, advisories and guidelines related to the pandemic.


Pedagogy
The Programme will be highly experiential and interactive, comprising participant presentations and discussions, case studies, classroom lectures and presentations by experts.

Programme Content

Overview:

The program blends academic expertise and practitioners’ experiences to equip participants with the necessary managerial skills that would be helpful for them in healthcare settings. The pedagogy introduces participants to contemporary conversations across different sectors and in different regions (national and global), while creating spaces for participants to draw on their experiences as healthcare professionals. Sessions will be delivered by IIMC faculty and select experienced industry experts.

The program is designed around three core axes:

Healthcare Context Module:

This module provides an overview of the global and Indian healthcare landscape, including healthcare systems, regulatory and ethical issues, and public policies in different countries. The module enables the participants to develop a comparative perspective to healthcare systems as well as to understand the underlying socio-political choices.

Sector-specific modules:

The module covers topics such as operational aspects of hospital planning and structure, quality and accreditation, the use of data and technology in healthcare organizations and the economics of the healthcare sector that are of relevance to managers of healthcare organizations

  • Harnessing technology in healthcare sector
  • Designing effective healthcare organizations

 

Functional modules:

This module provides exposure to knowledge of a breadth of functional management domains such as marketing, organizational design, strategic management, human resources management, leadership, conflict and negotiation, operations management (supply chain, project management), accounting, and finance. Participants will explore how foundational management principles from these functional domains can be applied in the healthcare sector.

In addition, there will be sessions to strengthen individual competencies like communication and basic statistical skills.

Capstone Project

  • This component engages participants in teams on projects that are of their specific interest. This project complements classroom sessions and allows participants to draw on multiple tools and concepts learned across modules.

Alumni Status
  • LDP participants who complete the programme successfully become the Alumni of IIMC Executive Education, which currently has over 30,000 members.
  • LDP Alumni are given an email-id in the IIM Calcutta domain.
  • LDP Alumni can register in the IIM Calcutta Alumni portal either with this email-id or with their personal email-ids. The IIM Calcutta Alumni portal is a common platform for Alumni of all programmes of the Institute to interact with each other and stay connected with the Institute.
  • The Institute shares newsletters, important news and articles about the Institute and its activities, the achievements of the Institute's faculty, staff, students and alumni, upcoming events and programmes etc., on the portal.
  • Alumni can post their achievements, write about jobs or LIVE project opportunities for other alumni to see.
  • The IIM Calcutta alumni network can also be accessed on mobile phones through the mobile app.
  • Executive Education Alumni are entitled to a discount of 5% on the programme fee if they opt to do another LDP.
  • By using the different features of the IIM Calcutta portal, alumni across programmes can engage with each other in many meaningful ways. It is up to the alumni themselves to leverage the platform
