IIMC Alumni Association - Calcutta Chapter hosted the prestigious Magnus Award programme on Monday 14h March at the Bengal Club, Kolkata. The award is a recognition of the awardee's accomplishment in his/her chosen field.

This year, the award was conferred on Dr. Runa Sarkar, a Professor with the Economics Group at Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, and the Convenor of the Centre for Development and Economic Policy. She is also a Faculty member on the Board of the Institute. Earlier, she was Dean (Academic) and Chairperson (PGPEx) at IIMC. Prior to this, she taught at IIT Kanpur. A Chemical Engineer from BITS Pilani, Dr. Sarkar pursued her Masters in Environmental Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA. After spending five years as an Environmental Consultant with a subsidiary of Tata Steel, she completed her doctoral studies from IIM Calcutta in 2006.

Her interests lie in sustainable development where business interests are in consonance with environmental and social interests. She is a member of the jury for the Steelie Awards in sustainability instituted by World Steel Association. In addition to being on the Boards of several climate change consulting companies, Dr. Sarkar has authored and edited several books in the area of Business, Environment and Institutions.
