Abstract | The case examines managerial, operational achievements and challenges of the Kolkata Police Force (KPF) in their efforts to uphold public safety during the annual Durga Puja mega festival. Itexamines specific scenarios where the KPF faced challenges especially in terms of resources. When possible, the case sheds light on the probable causes including the underlying shortcomings of the overall organizational and operational management. The other issues discovered in the case can be best understood by considering KPF’s current approach to operations management, their planning process, and the extent of collaboration with external stakeholders. Taking this perspective and with the aid of this teaching note, students are encouraged to think critically and come up with creative ideas and solutions to the problems discussed in the case. |
