About the Club
Every event has a story. Every celebration, achievement, candid smile, and quiet moment becomes a part of the legacy of IIM Calcutta only when it is remembered. Luminati exists to preserve those memories through the art of photography and visual storytelling.
As the official photography club of IIM Calcutta, Luminati serves as the visual chronicler of campus life. From cultural festivals and institute ceremonies to placement events, club activities, competitions, and everyday moments around Joka, the club documents experiences that define life at the institute. At the same time, it nurtures a vibrant community of photography enthusiasts by providing opportunities to learn, create, experiment, and showcase their work.
Luminati's philosophy extends far beyond event coverage. Through city photowalks, photography competitions, workshops, storytelling initiatives such as Humans of Joka, the Luminati Recommends series, biodiversity documentation with the Birdwatchers' Society, creative photobooths, and collaborative projects, the club encourages students to see the world with curiosity and creativity. Every initiative reflects the belief that photography is not merely about taking pictures—it is about preserving emotions, telling stories, and building a lasting visual archive of the IIM Calcutta experience.

Key Activities
- Institute & Event Coverage: Official photography coverage for institute ceremonies, cultural festivals, student events, placements, clubs, SIGs and councils.
- Photography Competitions: Organises flagship competitions including the Freshers' Photography Competition, Section Unity, InfiniFrame, PHOTOhunt and Illumination.
- Photowalks & Workshops: Conducts city photowalks, campus nature walks, and hands-on workshops covering photography techniques and visual storytelling.
- Campus Storytelling: Produces original content through initiatives such as Humans of Joka and Luminati Recommends, celebrating the people, places and culture of Kolkata and IIM Calcutta.
- Nature & Conservation: Collaborates with the Birdwatchers' Society to organise the Annual Campus Bird Count and promote appreciation of the institute's biodiversity.
- Creative Experiences: Designs themed photobooths, memory-print initiatives, official club merchandise, and engaging social media campaigns that strengthen campus culture.

Luminati is the official photography club of IIM Calcutta, dedicated to capturing the spirit, energy, and everyday moments of life on campus. We are a collective of students who share a passion for visual storytelling and a deep appreciation for the art and craft of photography. From sunlit lakeside mornings to vibrant cultural nights, from the intensity of competitions to the quiet of reflection, Luminati frames the many moods of Joka.
We actively document all major campus events, conduct hands-on workshops, organize themed competitions, and curate photowalks that help members hone their skills. Our club encourages experimentation, creativity, and self-expression, welcoming everyone—whether using a DSLR or a smartphone—to explore photography in their own way.
Luminati also plays a role in preserving campus heritage and memory, building visual archives that reflect the diverse experiences of students, faculty, and staff. Our members collaborate closely with other clubs and committees, ensuring that every important moment finds its way into the collective memory of the IIM Calcutta community.
