The 15th Case Method Workshop at IIM Calcutta will bring together educators, researchers, doctoral scholars and practitioners for an intensive, practice-led exploration of how real-world managerial issues can be developed into impactful teaching cases, engaging classroom experiences and avenues for research. Drawing on IIMCCRC’s experience in developing, reviewing, publishing and internationally disseminating decision-focused cases, participants will move from identifying a promising case lead to building a structured case plan, aligning the teaching note and designing the classroom discussion. Expert inputs, examples, guided practice, peer exchange and faculty engagement will be centered on participants' own case ideas.

The Participant Case Plan Track: A Distinctive Opportunity (Pre-Workshop Requirements)

A cornerstone of the IIM Calcutta Case Method Workshop is the hands-on Participant Case Plan Track. Rather than remaining purely theoretical, participants are empowered to bring an active case idea, refine it throughout the workshop and establish a clear roadmap toward classroom testing, co-authorship and international publication.

Individual or group Case Plans received by the deadline will form the basis of selected practice, presentation and faculty-engagement activities during the workshop.

What Your Case Plan Should Cover:

• Organization background, industry setting and protagonist profile (decision-maker).
• Core management dilemma, strategic choice, or operational problem requiring analysis.
• Target audience, course alignment and preliminary learning objectives.
• Proposed case structure, opening/closing decision hooks and essential data requirements.
• Plan for field research, primary interviews, secondary evidence and corporate permission status.

Support and Publication Opportunity at IIMCCRC

Participants are strongly encouraged to revise and complete their draft cases and teaching notes following feedback received during the workshop. Where there is strong academic alignment, selected high-potential projects may be considered for collaboration and co-authorship with IIM Calcutta faculty members. Approved projects published through the IIM Calcutta Case Research Center (IIMCCRC) may receive research grant funding to cover professional editorial and copyediting expenses.

Cases accepted into the IIMCCRC repository gain global reach through our international distribution partners, including Ivey Publishing (Canada), The Case Centre (UK) and Sage Publishing (USA) providing global visibility and international distribution to business school classrooms worldwide.

Participation, Registration Fees & Payment

EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION FOR INDIVIDUALS — 10% DISCOUNT (Deadline: 26 October 2026)

Register and complete the applicable registration fee payment on or before 26 October 2026 to avail a 10% Early Bird Discount.

GROUP REGISTRATION DISCOUNT:
A 10% group discount is applicable for 5 or more participants registering from the same organization. Eligible institutions should contact iimccrc[at]iimcal[dot]ac[dot]in prior to initiating online payment.

Fee Inclusions:
The registration fee covers workshop participation, course reading materials, official Certificate of Participation from IIM Calcutta, Meals and scheduled morning/afternoon tea/coffee breaks (breakfast, lunch and dinner on 8th and 9th January 2027 and breakfast on 10th January) while the workshop is in session. Travel, accommodation and incidental expenses are borne by participants.

Session Plan

The three-day workshop follows an intensive, structured learning arc spanning case conceptualization, narrative crafting, teaching note engineering, classroom facilitation and publication strategy.

Professor Michael J. Schill is an internationally recognised finance scholar, award-winning case author and experienced educator at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. A member of the Darden faculty since 2001, he holds the endowed position of Sponsors Professor of Business Administration. His teaching and research interests span corporate finance, investments, valuation, financial markets, asset pricing and international finance. His scholarly work has appeared in leading academic journals, including The Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies and Journal of Financial Economics.

At the heart of Professor Schill's academic contribution is a sustained commitment to case-based management education. He has authored more than 80 business cases, technical notes and simulations used by business schools worldwide. He is the author of the book Finance People: An Introduction to Their World and How They Think and co-author of Case Studies in Finance - Managing for Corporate Value Creation, now in its ninth edition.

Professor Schill's contribution to case writing and teaching has received significant international recognition. His case Ferrari: The 2015 Initial Public Offering won The Case Centre’s 2021 Finance, Accounting and Control category award, and he was ranked 36th in The Case Centre’s Top 50 Bestselling Case Authors for 2024–25. In 2025, his case materials sold over 100,000 copies just through the Darden storefront.

In addition to his work at Darden, Professor Schill has held academic appointments at the University of California, Riverside, and visiting positions at the University of Cambridge and the University of Melbourne. He serves as Editor of Finance Educator for the Social Science Research Network and as Associate Editor of the Journal of Banking and Finance. Before entering academia, he worked as a management consultant with Marakon Associates in Stamford and London. He holds a B.Sc. from Brigham Young University, an MBA from INSEAD and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington.

PROF. ADITI BHUTORIA

Aditi Bhutoria is an economist focusing on topics of education, technology, and public policy. She is an Associate Professor with the Public Policy and Management Group at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta where she teaches subjects like Business and Government in India, Public Policy Evaluation, and Rethinking Education Policy. She has completed her DPhil Education from the University of Cambridge (UK) and M.Sc. Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (UK). Prior to joining IIM-C, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School (USA). She has worked as a research consultant for the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge (UK), the Government Office for Science (UK), and the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), amongst others.

Prof. Bhutoria’s private sector experience includes working with Swiss Re Services Ltd. (London, Zurich) with their Financial Audit team; and PricewaterhouseCoopers Ltd. (India) with their Social Sector Advisory, mainly engaging with state governments across India and neighboring countries. Prof. Bhutoria has been a Research Fellow at the Asian Century Foundation. She is currently a Research Advisor with the Global EdTech Hub (UK), research affiliate for the Education and Training Evaluation Commission (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), and an associate at the Research for Equitable Access and Learning (REAL) Centre at the University of Cambridge (UK), Open Development and Education Ltd. (UK), and the Social Informatics Group (IIM-C, India). She is currently the Coordinator for the Case Research Center at IIMC.

PROF. ARPITA GHOSH

Arpita Ghosh is a Professor in the Finance and Control Group at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. Prior to joining IIM Calcutta, she was a faculty member at IIM Ahmedabad. With more than 15 years of teaching experience, her academic and professional credentials include a PhD in Finance and Control from IIM Calcutta, an M.Com. from the University of Calcutta, and the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA, CIMA) qualification. Before entering academia, she also gained professional experience with the Life Insurance Corporation of India.

Her teaching and research span financial reporting and analysis, cost and strategic cost management, corporate governance, banking, sustainability reporting, accounting ethics, enterprise risk management and ESG-related issues. She has presented her research at national and international conferences and has authored books and published articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Professor Ghosh has extensive experience in executive education and has served as Programme Director for several IIM Calcutta programmes, including those for senior finance professionals, general management executives and banking-sector participants. She has also held important academic and administrative responsibilities at IIM Calcutta, including serving as Group Coordinator of the Finance and Control Group and Faculty Coordinator of the IIM Calcutta Case Research Center (IIMCCRC).

An active contributor to case-based management education, Professor Ghosh has authored and co-authored teaching cases and conducts workshops on case writing and case teaching. She currently serves as Coordinator of the Centre for Development & Environment Policy (CDEP) at IIM Calcutta. Her combination of academic research, case-method experience and executive education brings a strong practitioner-oriented perspective to the workshop.
