Indian Institute of Management Calcutta is one of Asia Pacific region's premier business schools and amongst the top 3 business schools in India. It was established in November 1961 in collaboration with the Sloan School of Management (MIT), the Ford Foundation, the Government of West Bengal, together with ample support and encouragement from the Indian industry. Today, IIM Calcutta is a veritable melting pot of excellence - both its students and faculty are among the best in the world.
Infrastructure
The 135-acre campus of the institute features a cluster of Administrative and Faculty office blocks, fully equipped classrooms, seminar and conference rooms, residential quarters for students, faculty and staff members, a library, an executive training complex, a bank, a post office, and a school. The Management Center for Human Values (MCHV), which strives to uphold contemporary adaptations from the perennial corpus of Indian psycho-philosophical wisdom, is a unique feature of our campus. The state-of-the-art Finance Lab supports advanced applied research in financial markets and equips finance managers with theories and best practices in the respective field. The 750-seat Auditorium has hosted many national and international events. A brand new academic block equipped with world-class facilities and teaching aids together with a new residential complex, being developed by CCBA, are the latest additions to the campus.
The presence of lush greenery and seven lakes make the IIMC campus picturesque and well endowed. The campus plays host to some exotic and rare avian species.
The B. C. Roy Memorial Library of the institute, which started with a liberal Ford Foundation grant, has grown over the years, steadily catering to the changing information needs of the users. The library is considered to be the largest management library in Asia. Through it, students can gain access to over 140,000 reference works and 1500 periodicals, and access to the entire electronic collection.
IIMC is an acknowledged leader in computing resource and applications. The institute's computer center has emerged as a forerunner in the area of Computer Applications in Management. Students
IIMC has a dynamic and vibrant student community. Owing to the extremely rigorous selection process, only the best students are able to make it to IIMC. These students hail from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds. However, they share a common ground of enthusiasm and a penchant for perfection. Seminars, business school meets, sports, and cultural events are a regular feature of campus life. Student initiative is always encouraged and all clubs and societies are managed by students themselves. A Student Council, an over-arching constitutional body elected by students, is the principal decision-making entity related to all student activities. Faculty
One of the biggest strengths of IIMC is its world renowned faculty. The institute has more than 80 permanent faculties and many visiting members from the industry and other reputed business schools. Faculty members at IIMC have had over 1000 papers published in leading international journals. There is continuous interaction between the faculty and industry, with members taking up consulting assignments for companies, the Indian Government, the United Nations and other international agencies. Exchange Programme
The international Student Exchange Program (STEP) is an integral part of IIM Calcutta's mission of establishing itself as a global center of excellence in management education. The program provides students the opportunity to learn in culturally diverse environments, enabling them to become global managers in the true sense.
STEP was initiated in 1999 and in the past 12 years IIMC has established firm relationships with more than 40 prestigious B-schools in North & South America, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
