Anjan Ghosh

Anjan Ghosh completed his dissertation “Strategic Transition towards Organizational Hybridism – An Inquiry in a Social Enterprise” under the guidance of Prof Sougata Ray. His thesis advisory committee was comprised of Prof Sougata Ray (Chair), Prof Balram Avittathur and Prof Anirvan Pant. His doctoral research that combined ethnography and participatory action research, developed insights into the challenges and subsequent organizational responses in becoming hybrid. A business model “community+” developed as part of his doctoral research – that addresses child malnutrition and poverty, is now being piloted by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India.

As a doctoral student of IIM Calcutta, Anjan has received seven national/international awards for his research (along with his co-authors) – Society of Entrepreneur Education Best Case Award ( 2012), ISB-IVEY Best Case Award (2012), EFMD Best Case (Inclusive Business) Award (2013), 3rd. PAN IIM Annual Conference Best Paper Award (2015), Strategic Management Society Annual Conference (Strategy Process Track) top three paper (2016), Paul R. Lawrence Fellowship Award ( 2016) and Academy of Management Annual conference Best Paper (2017). He also received nomination for Best Paper Award in 4th PAN IIM Annual Conference (2016) as well as for Best Paper by Doctoral Student in SMS Annual conference (2016).

Anjan has fifteen years of industry experience first as an entrepreneur and then as intrepreneur rolling out new businesses and/or ventures. Just before joining the FP program at IIM Calcutta, Anjan was working as a Principal Researcher in Innovation Lab, Infosys. Anjan now divides his time between teaching entrepreneurship at the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) and continuing his field based discovery research on hybridism at IIM Calcutta.
